Locals Poetry Reading

Tuesday, April 22, 2025
6 PM

We’re excited to host our first-ever Locals Poetry Reading. Join Tim Barry, Rebecca Orchant, Richard Carey, Kathy Shorr, and Mary Ann Bragg for an evening of spoken word, poetry, etc. Come hear your neighbors and friends regale the audience from the stage of the Stanley Kunitz Common Room.

Tim Barry Headshot-sq

Tim Barry ran away from school on the first day of first grade, in Framingham, Mass. Later he was expelled from two high schools. He dropped out of one college and flunked out of another. As a feature writer and critic he was fired by the Boston Globe and The Brooklyn Rail. As a literary agent he was fired by K&W Literary. Artists as diverse as Morrissey and Hans Haacke have gone on record saying “Tim Barry doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”  Today Tim is picking up hours in a local used bookstore that bears his name.

Mary Ann Bragg Headshot-sq

Mary Ann Bragg is an LGBTQ writer, an Appalachian native and a Massachusetts resident. She has published short stories and creative nonfiction in a handful of literary journals.

Richard Carey Headshot-sq

Richard Carey is a queer poet, originally from Virginia. He has had poems published in several periodicals since moving to Provincetown in 2022. His first chapbook, as yet untitled, will be published in 2026.

Rebecca Orchant Headshot-sq

Rebecca Orchant is the co-owner of Pop+Dutch, a sandwich shop and market in Provincetown, MA, where she has lived with her husband Sean since 2014. Formerly a food editor at The Huffington Post, Orchant also performs burlesque, serves on the board of The Provincetown Commons, and contributes to The Provincetown Independent. She was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and earned a BFA in Dramatic Writing from The University of New Mexico. She was a national finalist for the John Cauble Award for Outstanding Short Play from The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. She is probably thinking about cheese right now.

Kathy Shorr Headshot-sq

Kathy Shorr  won the 2024 Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Contest, and has work recently published or forthcoming in the Atlanta Review, Lily Poetry Review, Cape Cod Review, and Pangyrus. She’s the author of the book Provincetown: Stories from Land’s End, and wrote the text for Charles Field’s photo book Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet.  She’s a longtime staff member of the Center for Coastal Studies.
