DEV SITE

This four-week class invites both poets and prose writers to remember what made them want to write in the first place: a love for language. For the first three weeks we will focus on a variety of syntax styles, which we will engage through exercises, discussions, and lectures. We will also perform close readings of works by writers such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Melville, Joy Williams, Cormac McCarthy, Nabokov, Ross Gay, and CD Wright, discussing how the English sentence is transformed in a master’s hands. Our last week will be a workshop, and students will be expected to present a short folio for review. By the end of our month together, you will be ready to lead your own investigation into the sentence and the imagination.
