About the Offering
ASYNCHRONOUS with OPTIONAL LIVE ELEMENTS:
What would happen if you took one topic or experience and wrote an essay about it as if you were looking through the lens of a kaleidoscope? In my experience, the essay would be very illuminating and the topic would become very compelling! Through concrete writing exercises, craft talks, lectures, and readings, students will master the Kaleidoscope Essay and leave class with at least two strong drafts. We will spend each week studying essays by Emily Bernard, Ryan Van Meter, Scott Russell Sanders, Jennifer Egan, and Lidia Yuknavitch.
Optional LIVE Elements: TBA opening zoom session and closing zoom sessions.

About the Instructor/Moderator
Chloe Caldwell is the author of three books: the essay collection I’ll Tell You in Person (Coffee House/Emily Books, 2016), the critically acclaimed novella, WOMEN (SF/LD, 2014 and Harper Collins UK, 2017) and Legs Get Led Astray (Future Tense Books, 2011). Her memoir, The Red Zone: A Love Story was published in 2022 from Soft Skull. Chloe’s essays have appeared in The New York Times, Bon Appétit, New York Magazine’s The Cut, The Strategist, Buzzfeed, Longreads, Vice, Nylon, Salon.com, Medium, The Rumpus, Catapult, Hobart, The Sun, Men’s Health, The Nervous Breakdown, and half a dozen anthologies including Goodbye To All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving NYC and Without A Net: The Female Experience of Growing Up Working Class. She lives in Hudson, N.Y. with her family.

Their work is regularly exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of over 60 museums. Over the past fifteen years, they have built a sustainable career as a visual artist and have extensive experience working with museums, galleries, universities and nonprofit organizations, publishers, and press outlets. In addition to their own creative work, they are passionate about sharing the professional knowledge they’ve acquired throughout their career with other artists.
