ASHYNCHRONOUS with LIVE ELEMENTS

Novellas are a special art form—contained and controlled. In this class, we will explore what makes an engaging novella and read various narrators such as excerpts from Victoria Redel. Marguerite Duras, and Hanif Kureishi. We will discuss the mystery of elision and what it can bring and take away from your work. Through readings, craft talks, and concrete exercises students will consider pacing, character development, and structure. Other takeaways will include the process of fictionalizing and insight into the publishing process and world. Students should come to class with drafts of at least 10 pages written.

OPTIONAL LIVE ELEMENTS:  This workshop features an optional welcome/intro Zoom meeting on either 11/14 or 11/15, and an optional closing Zoom meeting on either 12/12 or 12/13. 7pm—8pmET.
