2023 Summer Workshops
This highly collaborative workshop will encourage and inspire you to combine text and photographs to tell your unique stories. We will spend the week making photographs about words and writing words about photographs, using our own work as prompts, as well as responding to the work of fellow classmates. We will also examine and discuss the practices of master artists and explore books, conceptual projects and digital formats that successfully combine the image and the written word. You will leave with a broad understanding of the image/text form and how it can enhance an ongoing creative practice and further your authentic voice. All digital camera formats are welcome, including android/iphones. Feedback is individualized so experience at all levels–both in photography and writing–is welcome. Bring a laptop for editing if available.
Biography
Joanne Dugan is a New York City based visual artist, editor and writer. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in the US, UK, Europe and Japan, and featured in The New York Times T Magazine and the Harvard Review, among others. Her photographs and text have been published in seven books, including Summertime (Chronicle Books) and ABC NYC: A Book About Seeing New York City (Abrams Books). Her limited edition text/image monograph, Mostly True, is in the permanent library collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the George Eastman House. She is on the faculty of the International Center of Photography in New York City and is represented by Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles and Black Box Projects Gallery in London.
